REFLECTION ON COURSE
Over the course of this semester, I have really enjoyed my time in ED 430. One of this things I respected and appreciated the most was the people that showed up and shared their opinions with all of us. I love hearing different perspectives and thoughts on the different topics that we learned about.
I think one of the lessons that sticks out the most to me was when we looked at different education quotes and had to pick our favorite. I surprised myself with what quotes I agreed and disagreed with. I also loved seeing what quotes everyone else shared as their favorites.
Another memorable day was when we had the student board come in and talk about stresses of high school life and curriculum. This really helped me reflect on my own teaching because I got to see school through the eyes of students. It has been a long time since I was in high school, and things have definitely changed. Hearing the thoughts of kids currently in the education system made me thing about my own students.
Overall, I think this class made me reflect critically on my own teaching. For example I found myself asking " is this lesson meaningful" and "what is the goal of this assignment". After class discussions about the importance of curriculum planning, I found myself being more cautious on what I was giving to my own students.
What was your favorite lesson?
Did you apply anything to your own life?
I know I will leave ED 430 with the question of " why am I doing this lesson" and will probably think of that question for years to come. :)

ReplyDeleteHi Marisa, thanks for sharing your reflection. Hands down, my favorite class was the one with the student panel--- it was so cool to hear students talk about their experiences first hand. I never interact with teenagers and was taken back by how poised and thoughtful they were with their responses. Something that resonated with me about your post is how the class has made you think critically about teaching and truly questioning the meaning of your assignments. Although I do not teach, I am finding myself doing the same with my learning as a student and am now constantly asking myself, why am I learning this? Why in this order? what is the purpose of XYZ assignments? I hope I continue to have this internal dialogue with myself as I complete grad school. That internal dialogue has helped me understand the value of the content that is being presented to me.
